Expanding the DJI DL Mount Ecosystem

Expanding the DJI DL Mount Ecosystem: A Call for More Lenses and Innovation

The DJI DL mount is a versatile and innovative lens system designed for both aerial and ground-based filmmaking.

Initially launched with the Zenmuse X7 on the Inspire 2 drone, the DL mount has since become a vital component

of DJI's flagship Ronin 4D cinema camera, offering unparalleled stability and image quality for professional filmmakers.

While the DL mount's potential is immense, its lens ecosystem remains relatively limited. Expanding

the selection both through DJI's in-house development and by fostering third-party partnerships

would unlock new creative possibilities for filmmakers and photographers.

The Current DJI DL Lens Lineup

DJI has developed a solid range of lenses for the DL mount, but there's room for growth. Here s a

look at what s available now:

- DJI DL PZ 17-28mm T3.0 ASPH

A versatile wide-angle zoom lens with a constant T3.0 aperture,

ideal for landscapes, interiors, and wide-angle shots. This is the only zoom lens currently available

for the DL mount.

- DJI DL 18mm f/2.8 ASPH

An ultra-wide prime lens perfect for capturing expansive scenes with

minimal distortion.

- DJI DL 24mm f/2.8 LS ASPH

A wide-angle lens suited for landscapes and architectural shots.

- DJI DL 35mm f/2.8 LS ASPH

A standard prime lens offering a natural perspective, versatile for a

variety of subjects.

- DJI DL 50mm f/2.8 LS ASPH

A short telephoto lens, ideal for portraits and achieving a beautiful

background blur.

- DJI DL 75mm f/1.8

A medium telephoto lens with a bright aperture, great for low-light shooting and

creating a shallow depth of field.

Third-Party Contributions

Some third-party manufacturers have stepped in to expand the DL mount ecosystem:

- Laowa 11mm f/4.5 FF RL

An ultra-wide-angle lens with a 126 angle of view, ideal for landscapes

and creative perspectives.

- Laowa 14mm f/4 FF RL Zero-D

A compact ultra-wide lens with minimal distortion, perfect for

architecture and interior shots.

- Viltrox DL Mount Lenses

Viltrox has announced plans to release a series of lenses for the DL

mount, which could significantly expand options for users.

Why the DL Mount Needs More Lenses

- Enhancing the Ronin 4D Ecosystem: The Ronin 4D is a revolutionary cinema camera, combining

advanced stabilization and modularity. However, its creative potential is limited by the lack of

specialty lenses like macro, anamorphic, or long telephoto options.

- Unified Workflow Across DJI Devices: Filmmakers using both drones and the Ronin 4D would

benefit from a broader range of lenses, enabling seamless workflows without needing adapters or

additional systems.

- Encouraging Third-Party Manufacturers: While companies like Laowa and Viltrox have started

producing DL lenses, partnerships with established brands like Sigma or Tamron could significantly

expand the ecosystem.

Call to Action: Let s Make It Happen

The DJI DL mount is already a robust system, but it’s time for DJI to step up and fully unlock its

potential. By developing more in-house lenses and actively partnering with third-party

manufacturers, DJI can solidify the DL mount as the most versatile and comprehensive ecosystem

for both aerial and ground-based filmmaking.
